Utah college prep resources

Many students and parents feel overwhelmed at the idea of preparing for college, and feel unsure where to start. But don’t worry, there are many resources in Utah to help you get ready for the future you’ve always wanted.

StepUp Utah is a useful website that provides comprehensive information on how to plan and prepare for college. There are tips for those just getting started, from getting motivated in junior high, to tools that help you explore your interests. For those in high school, there’s information about the classes that best prepare you for college, how to stay on track and, through the College Access Network Program Search, resources for additional help if you need it. There’s also information about the different colleges in Utah and the types of financial aid available.

The Utah Majors Guide is a great way to help students know the colleges that offer specific majors and the careers these majors prepare you for. This website focuses on the majors offered at the eight public higher education institutions around the state.

There’s more to being prepared for college than taking the right classes in high school; you also must be prepared to pay for college.

Did you know there is a scholarship to encourage Utah high school students to be college ready? The Regents’ Scholarship encourages students to prepare for college academically and financially by taking a core course of study and saving for college. It can be used at any non-profit institution in the state.

CentsibleStudent helps guide students to make smart financial decisions before, during and after college. This site provides information on planning to pay for college, applying for scholarships, borrowing money and how to repay responsibly.

Another resource is the Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP), Utah’s official 529 plan. It is designed to encourage saving now for the future costs of higher education, and has been consistently ranked as one of the top 529 plans in the country.
