Board of Regents appoints Dr. Norm Tarbox as interim president of Weber State University, effective May 1

The State Board of Regents named Dr. Norm Tarbox as interim president of Weber State University, to take effect May 1, 2018. Dr. Tarbox will return to his current role as Vice President for Administrative Services at Weber State after the Board of Regents completes the presidential search and a new president is in place.

Dr. Charles A. Wight, current president of Weber State, announced Jan. 18, 2018, that he planned to step down as president effective May 1, 2018. It is anticipated that a new president will be in place by the end of 2018.

Dan Campbell, Chair of the Board of Regents, said, “Dr. Tarbox is the longest-serving vice president at Weber State University and has experienced several administrative changes during his time at the institution. He is well-prepared to serve Weber State in this role, and the Board is confident he will successfully shepherd Weber State through this transition. We appreciate his dedication to the long-term success of the institution.”

Dr. Tarbox has served as Vice President for Administrative Services at Weber State since May 2002. He previously served in the Utah System of Higher Education as Associate Commissioner for Finance and Facilities from 2000 to 2002 and Assistant Commissioner from 1996 to 2000. Dr. Tarbox earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy at the University of Utah, an MBA and BA in Communications from Brigham Young University, and an AA from Snow College.
